Friends of the Hyde Park Library Members and the general public are cordially invited to THE fundraiser of the year!
Commemorating the Friends’ acquisition of Isaac Caliga’s portrait as well as the centennial of the artist’s passing, the John J. Enneking Centennial Bookmark Ball will be held Saturday, October, 22, 2016, from 7:00PM to 10:00PM at the Hyde Park Branch Library of the Boston Public Library, 35 Harvard Avenue, Hyde Park, Massachusetts. Angela Menino and BPL President David Leonard are our Honorary Ball Co-Chairs.
As in previous years, the ball will feature raffle items, a quilt display, and musical entertainment, as well as light refreshments with a cash bar. Our event highlight will be a live auction of framed Enneking reproductions. Suggested donation for the ball is $30 in advance and $35 at the door.

The Friends are very proud to offer its annual summer music series featuring a different local performing group each Thursday in the library garden through August 18. The Savin Hillbillies will kick off the 2016 Concerts in the Garden series on Thursday, July 14, 6:30p.m-7:30p.m. Concerts will be moved inside to air-conditioned Menino Hall in the event of excessive heat or rain.

The summer concert series is sponsored by the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library and is also supported in part by Hyde Park Main Streets and the Boston Public Library. All concerts are free and open to the public.
All are invited to the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 2, 2016, beginning at 1:30pm. During the Annual Meeting, the Friends will honor Tommey Seggers and Artists-At-Large, Inc., as Friends of the Year for their contributions to the library and to the community.
Following the business meeting and award presentations, Elizabeth Ives Hunter, former director of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, will speak about Isaac Caliga and his portrait of Hyde Park’s American Impressionist painter John J. Enneking. The formal unveiling of the portrait will take place at the end of the lecture, and the afternoon will conclude with a reception featuring the traditional offering of homemade sweets.

Coming up again for the first December 2015 weekend, the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library will have volunteer staff on hand for mini-book and tag sales for your holiday shopping pleasure.
Come on down to our book room outside of Menino Hall on the Ground Floor, where available books include a wide range of fiction and nonfiction, all new acquisitions since our Fall 2015 book sale. Prices range from $.25 for small paper backs and children’s books to $1.00 for large paperbacks and hardcovers. An assortment of tagged new/used housewares and holiday items such as greeting cards, crafts, jewelry, and decorations, will also be offered.

It’s that time again to stock up on your entertainment and holiday gifts! The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s annual Fall Book and Media Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, from 10am to 3pm, in the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Menino Hall.
Hyde Park Friends members are invited to attend our evening members-only Preview reception on Thursday, October 22, from 5pm-7:30pm. Renew your membership or join that evening!
Sale offerings include hardcover and paperback books for adults and children, as well as videos/DVDs, tapes/CDs, and premium books for discriminating book lovers. Prices range from $.25 to $3.00; premium books are priced as marked OR your best offer!

Two items a day will be featured on Members’ Night Thursday and public sales days on Friday and Saturday. Minimum bids start at $5-$20, depending on item. Winning names will be announced at 6:30pm on Thursday, and at 2pm on Friday and Saturday.
It’s not too late to donate books to our sale! Please place books in bags or boxes on the bench near the first floor elevator at the branch library. For very large book and media donations, kindly let us know at firstname.lastname@example.org to arrange a pick-up. All proceeds from the book sale will be used by the Friends to support music and other programs at the branch library. Programs at the library are open to all ages and are free.
The next open board meeting for the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library will be held on Monday, November 2, 2015, 6:30 p.m.-7:45p.m. in Menino Hall at the library. Friends members and the general public are invited and welcome to attend.
Upcoming Board Meetings occur monthly on the first Monday at the same times.
