Friends Annual Meeting, April 2, 2016

owlsAll are invited to the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Annual Meeting on Saturday, April 2, 2016, beginning at 1:30pm.  During the Annual Meeting, the Friends will honor Tommey Seggers and Artists-At-Large, Inc., as Friends of the Year for their contributions to the library and to the community.

Following the business meeting and award presentations, Elizabeth Ives Hunter, former director of the Cape Cod Museum of Art, will speak about Isaac Caliga and his portrait of Hyde Park’s American Impressionist painter John J. Enneking.  The formal unveiling of the portrait will take place at the end of the lecture, and the afternoon will conclude with a reception featuring the traditional offering of homemade sweets.

Jazz at the LibraryAll are invited to the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 28, 2015, beginning at 1:30pm.  During the Annual Meeting, the Friends will honor Mary Margaret Pitts and Barbara Wicker as Friends of the Year for their many contributions to the library and to the community.

Following the business meeting and award presentations, Carolyn M. Goldstein of the Public History and Community Archives Program at U/Mass Boston will present a lecture on the Mass. Memories Road Show and a possible Hyde Park show in 2016.  The afternoon will conclude with a reception featuring the traditional offering of homemade sweets.

Jazz at the LibraryAll are invited to the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Annual Meeting this Saturday, April 5, 2014, beginning at 1pm.  During the Annual Meeting, the Friends will honor Claire Pauley as Friend of the Year for her many contributions to the library and to the Friends.

Following the business meeting and award presentations, Emma Snellings from Trailside Museum will present lecture on birds of prey featuring live specimens from the museum’s collection.

The afternoon will conclude with a reception featuring the traditional offering of homemade sweets.  Friends owl logo T-shirts will be available for sale at half price at this event.

Menino Hall 1 p.m. Saturday, April 6: Be There!

Jazz at the LibraryAll are invited to the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Annual Meeting this Saturday, April 6, 2013, beginning at 1pm.  During the Annual Meeting, the Friends will honor Alice Yee Kane as Friend of the Year for her many contributions to the library and to the Friends.

In addition, the Friends will recognize longtime Hyde Park Branch library assistants Theresa Cameron and Marge Gurney who retired in 2012.

Following the business meeting and award presentations, Soo & Maria, a jazz duo from the New England Conservatory, will present selections from their repertoire of jazz favorites re-arranged for voice and harp.

The afternoon will conclude with a reception featuring the traditional offering of homemade sweets. And of course, an opportunity to investigate the mini-book sale kicking off this weekend!

Friends Annual Meeting Held

Ron Covitz, Friend of the Year

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library held their annual meeting on Saturday, March 31, 2012.  Friends President Kathy Adams chaired the business meeting that informed meeting attendees of the Friends’ activities during the year 2011, which include the successful application to the Blue Hills Bank Charitable Foundation for a $10,000 grant.  The first of 3 grant payments has been received and several events sponsored by the grant will take place in April 2012.   Following the business meeting, attending members and guests congratulated Ron Covitz of Ron’s Gourmet Ice Cream and Bowling Lanes as the 2012 Friend of the Year Award

recipient.  As in previous years, Rep. Angelo Scaccia and Boston Councillor Rob Consalvo attended the annual meeting and also presented citations to Ron.  At the end of the organization’s business meeting and the Friend award ceremony d’Allegro Duo, comprising Laura Delgado Clemons and Bob Shea, performed classic and contemporary vocal selections til nearly the branch library’s closing–great job, Laura and Bob!  Attendees enjoyed light refreshments provided by the Friends.

Friends 2012 Annual Meeting

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library will hold its Annual Meeting on Saturday, March 31, 2012, 1:30pm, in Menino Hall, Hyde Park Branch Library. The Hyde Park Friends members are invited to attend this annual meeting to receive reports on the organization and to approve 3 Board of Directors members to new three-year terms.  The annual Friend of the Year award will be presented to Ron Covitz of Ron’s Gourmet Ice Cream.

At the conclusion of the organization’s business, a musical program will be presented by the d’Allegro Duo, featuring Laura Delgado Clemons and Bob Shea.  Light refreshments will be served at the end of the Annual Meeting.

Friends Annual Meeting

Members gatherMeeting Attendeesed Saturday, March 26, 2011, for the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Annual Meeting. Officers reported on organizational activities and finances, as well as discussed the current and immediate future of the branch library and the Boston Public Library system as a whole.

Two of the three new branch librarians spoke about their work and plans for future activities. Children’s librarian Vicky Burr comes from the Faneuil Branch, and has worked in the Boston library system for 15 years. She regularly presents up to 60 toddlers and preschoolers stories and crafts on Tuesdays and Wednesdays.  Vicky create 3 new book discussion groups for children in grades K through 6 that meet monthly on Saturday.   Adult reference librarian Jean Antoine, originally from Haiti, HP Adults Librarianentered library service as a library assistant and worked his way up within the Boston Public Library to his current position.  He works closely with weeding older books and acquiring new ones for the branch collections.  Jean spoke of the branch’s receipt of laptops and a new class to teach the patrons how to sign up for and use email.  Although Young Adults librarian John Kenney could not attend the meeting, his prepared letter was read to meeting attendees, and described his gaming activities with teens at the library.  All three librarians made requests for items that would assist them in their activities.

Friends voluntFriend of the Year Awardeer Vicky Gall received the annual Friend of the Year Award for her tireless work with sale books and membership activities.  Following the award presentation, attendees received news about the upcoming Back2Basics Bookmark BallMeeting refreshments.

Following the day’s program Annual Meeting attendees enjoyed baked goods supplied by Friends members and directors, along with a selection of juices, water and tea.
