Friends’ 2018 WINTER RAFFLE

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library are pleased to offer a Winter raffle featuring 3 items.

A gift basket of  souvenirs from Hyde Park’s 150th anniversary  and other items  with a connection to 1868 such as:

  • Tabasco sauce patented  1868,
  • Little Women- Louisa May Alcott, written 1868,
  • The Technologist – Matthew Pearl, a mystery  occurring at MIT in 1868,
  • The US  Constitution  – The 14th  Amendment that  granted citizenship and equal civil and legal rights to African Americans and slaves who had been emancipated after the American Civil War was enacted in  1868.

Tickets are $2.00 each or 3 tickets for $5.00.  Three ways to enter!

  1. Ticket forms/envelope may be picked up from the display case in the library opposite the circulation desk.  Put completed form with payment in cash or check in the collection box (library staff cannot accept payments or issue tickets); or
  2. Make out a check to “Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library” and mail with your name, phone number and email address,  to the Friends c/o Hyde Park Branch Library, 35 Harvard Avenue, Hyde Park, MA, 02136; or
  3. Use a credit card with the Paypal buttons below.  Quantity for 3 raffle ticket option can be increased.

Friends’ 2017 Summer Book & Media Sale

Book Sale!It’s that time again to stock up on your beach entertainment and summer reading!  The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s 1st annual Summer Book and Media Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, July 14 and 15, from 10am to 3pm, in the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Menino Hall.

Hyde Park Friends members are invited to attend our evening members-only Preview reception on Thursday, July 13, from 5pm-7:30pm.  Renew your membership or join that evening!

Sale offerings include hardcover and paperback books for adults and children, as well as videos/DVDs, tapes/CDs, and premium books for discriminating book lovers.  Prices range from $.25 to $3.00; premium books are priced as marked OR your best offer.  Certain authors are half price.  Check our mini tag sale area, too.

It’s not too late to donate books to our sale!  Please place books in bags or boxes on the bench near the first floor elevator at the branch library.  For very large book and media donations, kindly let us know at booksale@friendshplibrary.org to arrange a pick-up.  All proceeds from the book sale will be used by the Friends to support music and other programs at the branch library.  Programs at the library are open to all ages and are free.

Don’t forget to Save the Date!  October 22, 2016, from 7:00pm to 10:00pm, is set for our fundraiser event of the year at the branch library.  Highlighting Hyde Park’s late resident artist, the John J. Enneking Centennial Bookmark Ball is not to be missed!  Framed reproductions of his artwork will be auctioned off that evening, and the ball is a great opportunity to view the recently acquired Isaac Caliga portrait of Enneking.

Jazz Week 2016 in Hyde Park

JAZZWEEK_logo_CMYK_outline2016Calling all jazz music fans! JazzBoston’s Jazz Week returns to Beantown on April 22, 2016 and runs through May 1, 2016. The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library and Artists-At-Large, Inc., are pleased to collaborate again for our fourth Jazz Week by bringing The Trombone Giants to the branch library on Saturday April 30, 2016, at 2:00pm.

Veteran Boston trombonist and band leader John Licata will kickoff the event with his presentation, What was When!! The 1970s Boston Jazz Scene, with jazz by the Giants following.  The Trombone Giants comprise John Licata and Michael Wang on trombone, Ben Schwendenener on piano, Rich Appleman on bass, and Jean Marie Corrois on drums.

Come on in to Hyde Park for some history, some live jazz, and our available selection of jazz CDs for sale!

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library is a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization supporting the Hyde Park Branch Library and the Hyde Park community.  We thank our members and the community for supporting our book and media sales, and for giving generously to continue sponsoring free music events and other activities for all ages at the branch library.

Artists-at-Large, also a non-profit, introduces, supports and encourages local artists in exhibiting and sharing their art in the community and beyond, as well as paying forward to others by donating a portion of their show proceeds to a charity of their choice.

You don’t have to wait for the new season to get your gear!  Be one of 6 lucky winners of our Red Sox Gear Silent Auction, featuring items from a Red Sox package valued at $600, generously donated by Friends Board member John Wentworth.  The package includes

Even if you can’t come on the sale days, you can still help the Friends and the branch library by participating in our Holiday Raffle, featuring a five-piece Red Sox gear package valued at $600 generously donated by Friends Board member John Wentworth!  The package includes

Start November with New Books and DVD’s!

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch will hold its Fall book sale on Friday and Saturday, November 2-3, from 10-3.  Members of the Friends get the best selection – and tasty treats as well! – at the preview reception on November 1 from 6-7:30.  If it has expired, you can renew your membership ($10 for basic level) at the door.  And bring a friend or neighbor who would like to join.

Do you have books in good, saleable condition that you would like to donate?  If so, please prescreen them at home and put into your recycling any books with the following problems: 1) torn bindings, covers, pages; 2) stains or warping from beverage spills; 3) mildew odors; 4) outdated computer and technical manuals and textbooks.  Leave donated books on the bench in the lobby near the elevator. 

Become a more active member!  We welcome volunteers during the week before the sale to sort and arrange the books, and on the sale days to assist us with a variety of tasks.  It is a wonderful opportunity to help the library (proceeds from all Friends fundraisers support programming at the branch) and to meet fellow book-lovers.  If you can help, leave your contact information (name, phone, email) at the circulation desk (617.361.2524) or at friendshplibrary@yahoo.com.

Book Sale!Warm weather gets everyone outside, but don’t forget your reading material for the beach or those few rainy days!   The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s semi-annual Book and Media Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, June 8 and 9, from 10am to 3pm, in the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Menino Hall.

Hyde Park Friends members are invited to attend our evening members-only Preview reception on Thursday, June 7, from 6-8pm.  Renew your membership or join that evening!

Sale offerings include hardcover and paperback books for adults and children, as well as videos/DVDs, tapes/CDs, and premium books for discriminating book lovers.  Prices range from $.25 to $1.00; premium books are priced as marked OR your best offer!  The Friends will again offer tasty bits to refresh you while browsing our tables.  A variety of edibles and non-alcoholic beverages will be available for sale at our baked goods table.

Even if you can’t come on the sale days, you can still help the Friends and the branch library!  Drop off your donations of books in good saleable condition on the bench nearest the elevator at the branch library, or sign up at the circulation desk to help us sort book donations and set up between June 4 and 7.

Friends’ Fall 2011 Book & Media Sale

Book Sale!The Friends’ Fall semi-annual book and media sale will be held on Friday October 28 and Saturday October 29, from 10am to 3 pm.  Friends members are cordially invited to the Members Preview Reception on the evening of Thursday Oct 28, from 6pm to 7:30pm.  Not a member?  You can  become a member that evening!

In preparation for the sale, the Friends welcome donation of books and media in good saleable condition, which may be left on the first floor bench near the elevator.   Encyclopedic donations are usually not offered at the book sale.  Interested in volunteering, or have questions or comments?  Please leave a message with contact information at the circulation desk, or an email to the noted contact address below.
