We are all readers! This summer, the Friends have been feeding your habit by running a clearance sale: hard covers only 50 cents, softcovers 20 cents, and lots of books on the “free table” in the lobby of Menino Hall. Be sure you check out the current offerings before Labor Day.
Calling All Students, Teachers, and Parents: do you need pictures for school projects or articles about fascinating parts of the world? A donor brought in 12 boxes of National Geographic magazines. We are moving them to the “free table”, but in the meantime many are under the bench in the first floor circulation desk lobby. Help yourself if you find something useful.
Donations Wanted: Our goal this summer was to clear out many of the books we have been shuffling between storage and the formal book sales for years. Because of our success, we are seeking more books in good condition for our next event.
Please prescreen your donations at home and put into your recycling any books with the following problems: 1) torn bindings, covers, pages; 2) stains or warping from beverage spills; 3) mildew odors; 4) outdated computer and technical manuals and textbooks.
Volunteers Needed! We have a highly dedicated but much too small group of workers for our many Friends activities. Everything we do is in support of the mission of the wonderful Hyde Park Branch Library.
Can you share your talents for a few hours a week or a month toward our efforts? At present, we are especially seeking someone to work on publicity and outreach. Kathy (president), Vicky (programs), and Alice (webmaster) are eager to work with you. Or if you are able to help with book sorting, Kathy or Vicky will meet you at the library when you are available. Please leave your name and email address and/or phone number at the circulation desk: 617-361-2524.
And please consider attending our next open board meeting on Thursday, September 6, at 6:;30 p.m. in Menino Hall. In October, we will revert to our normal schedule of the first Monday of the month.
