150th Anniversaries Celebration Today!

black-soldiersToday, July 27, 2013, between 11am and 4pm, the Hyde Park Sesquicentennial Committee, comprising the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library, the Hyde Park Historical Society, and the Boston Public Library, are pleased to sponsor a Civil War anniversary event at the Hyde Park Branch Library!  This year marks the 150th anniversaries of the Emancipation Proclamation and the formation of the 54th Regiment of Massachusetts Volunteers.  Come on by and see some history!

The Order of the Day:

11:00am-4:00pm     An authentic Civil War encampment on library lawn

12:00 noon           Reading of Emancipation Proclamation from library steps

12:00-4:00pm      Civil War artifacts exhibit in the Nancy Hannan Archives Room

12:15pm-12:45pm     Interpretive and historical talk on the 54th Regiment by the Museum of African American History

12:45pm               Special showing of the film, Glory

Jazz in the Age of Aquarius, 1962-1976

Jazz at the LibraryJazzWeek (April 27 – May 6) is coming again!  The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library are pleased to collaborate with Artists-at-Large, Inc.,  in presenting on April 30, 2012, 6pm-8pm, Jazz in the Age of Aquarius, 1962-1976, a special International Jazz Day lecture by Bob McCloskey which will be followed by a screening of The Return of the 5,000 Lb.
