Friends’ 2018 WINTER RAFFLE

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library are pleased to offer a Winter raffle featuring 3 items.

A gift basket of  souvenirs from Hyde Park’s 150th anniversary  and other items  with a connection to 1868 such as:

  • Tabasco sauce patented  1868,
  • Little Women- Louisa May Alcott, written 1868,
  • The Technologist – Matthew Pearl, a mystery  occurring at MIT in 1868,
  • The US  Constitution  – The 14th  Amendment that  granted citizenship and equal civil and legal rights to African Americans and slaves who had been emancipated after the American Civil War was enacted in  1868.

Bookmark Ball 2016 Auction and Raffles

Silent Auction at libraryIn celebration of John J. Enneking’s life and career, this year’s Bookmark Ball on Saturday, October 22nd, will feature a live auction of 7 Enneking giclee reproductions.  Giclee is a French word meaning “to spray ink,” and is pronounced “zhee clay”.   A giclée print is a reproduction of an original work of art using a highly specialized inkjet printer.

Tickets for the Bookmark Ball are $30 in advance, and a suggested $35 at the door.   All proceeds from the 2016 Bookmark Ball benefits the Friends’ Art Fund, which covers musical arts programs such as the Friends’ summer concert series and other performances throughout the year at the branch library.  These performances are open to the public of all ages and are free admission.

Happy Readers and Raffle Winners

BkSale2014staffThis past weekend of October 24-25, the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library held its annual Book and Media Sale in the branch’s Menino Hall, raising over $1,800 for children and adult programs in the coming year.  Pictured left are some of Saturday’s volunteers, including Friends President Vicky Gall, Board members Lorraine Nessar and Alice Kane, and helpers Natalie Sears and David Vieira.

Thursday evening’s Members-only Preview Sale and Reception was well-attended by current and returning members, and attendees included City Councilor Timothy McCarthy who was presented by the Friends a clock-paperweight as a memento of his visit.  More Friends and their families, as well as the general public, visited Menino Hall Friday and Saturday, the main sale days, to take home lots of book and media bargains.

BkSale2014raffleThe Friends’ Red Sox Gear Raffle was drawn Saturday afternoon, and each lucky winner received an item from a sports gear package generously donated by Friends Board member John Wentworth, pictured here with Vasco Antoni, winner of the Red Sox duffel bag and long-time member/supporter of the Friends and branch library.  Other winning Friends and library supporters are Mary Ann Amatucci, Christine DeLosh, Charlotte Halloran, Joyce Riedel, and Paul Yokas.

For those interested in more bargains, the Friends’ regular sale shelves located on the first floor to the right of the security gate will continue to be stocked with new book donations.  The group will sponsor a staffed mini book and holiday sale in early December.  Announcement notices for the mini sale will be made directly to the membership, and posted on the blog and at the branch library.

Friends’ 2014 Fall Book & Media Sale

Book Sale!Cooler weather is coming, so it’s time to stock up on your entertainment and holiday gifts.  The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s annual Fall Book and Media Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, October 24 and 25, from 10am to 3pm, in the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Menino Hall.

Hyde Park Friends members are invited to attend our evening members-only Preview reception on Thursday, October 23, from 6pm-7:30pm.  Renew your membership or join that evening!  City Councilor Timothy McCarthy plans on attending.  Come and welcome him to our library.

Sale offerings include hardcover and paperback books for adults and children, as well as videos/DVDs, tapes/CDs, and premium books for discriminating book lovers.  Prices range from $.25 to $3.00; premium books are priced as marked OR your best offer!

4 Holiday Raffle 2012 Winners

rafflejersey1The winners have been selected for the Holiday Raffle sponsored by the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library!

At the end of the Hyde Park Historical Society’s holiday meeting at the branch library on Saturday December 15th, Friends Directors Barbara Wicker and Claire Pauley drew 5 tickets for each of the 5 items in the prize package: 1 each MLB-licensed men’s large Pedroia home jersey (pictured above), reversible Red Sox pullover jacket, Red Sox zippered jacket with hood, Red Sox logo ball cap, and a commemorative Fenway coin set.  The winners drawn are:  Agnes Burns, Gloria Ganno (2), Alice Kane, and Roberta Poff.

Congratulations to the lucky winners, and a big “Thank-you!” to everyone who participated in our raffle!  A special “Thank-you!” from the Friends goes to Friends Director John Wentworth for his generous donation of the prize package.  The raffle proceeds totaling $250 will sponsor programs at the branch library in the coming year.
