Friends’ 2015 Fall Book & Media Sale – Plus!

It’s that time again to stock up on your entertainment and holiday gifts!  The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library’s annual Fall Book and Media Sale will be held Friday and Saturday, October 23 and 24, from 10am to 3pm, in the Hyde Park Branch Library’s Menino Hall.

Hyde Park Friends members are invited to attend our evening members-only Preview reception on Thursday, October 22, from 5pm-7:30pm.  Renew your membership or join that evening!

Sale offerings include hardcover and paperback books for adults and children, as well as videos/DVDs, tapes/CDs, and premium books for discriminating book lovers.  Prices range from $.25 to $3.00; premium books are priced as marked OR your best offer!

You don’t have to wait for the new season to get your gear!  Be one of 6 lucky winners of our Red Sox Gear Silent Auction, featuring items from a Red Sox package valued at $600, generously donated by Friends Board member John Wentworth.  The package includes 

• 1 Men’s cap, navy with red B logo
• 1 Men’s XL Red Sox warm-up jersey
• 1 Men’s XL Red Sox track pants
• 1 Men’s XL Red Sox track jacket
• 1 Boston Red Sox Duffle
• 1 Men’s XL Red Sox fleece jacket
• 1 Men’s XL Red Sox T-Shirt.

Two items a day will be featured on Members’ Night Thursday and public sales days on Friday and Saturday.  Minimum bids start at $5-$20, depending on item.  Winning names will be announced at 6:30pm on Thursday, and at 2pm on Friday and Saturday.

It’s not too late to donate books to our sale!  Please place books in bags or boxes on the bench near the first floor elevator at the branch library.  For very large book and media donations, kindly let us know at info@friendshplibrary.org to arrange a pick-up.  All proceeds from the book sale will be used by the Friends to support music and other programs at the branch library.  Programs at the library are open to all ages and are free.

Happy Readers and Raffle Winners

This past weekend of October 24-25, the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library held its annual Book and Media Sale in the branch’s Menino Hall, raising over $1,800 for children and adult programs in the coming year.  Pictured left are some of Saturday’s volunteers, including Friends President Vicky Gall, Board members Lorraine Nessar and Alice Kane, and helpers Natalie Sears and David Vieira.

Thursday evening’s Members-only Preview Sale and Reception was well-attended by current and returning members, and attendees included City Councilor Timothy McCarthy who was presented by the Friends a clock-paperweight as a memento of his visit.  More Friends and their families, as well as the general public, visited Menino Hall Friday and Saturday, the main sale days, to take home lots of book and media bargains.

The Friends’ Red Sox Gear Raffle was drawn Saturday afternoon, and each lucky winner received an item from a sports gear package generously donated by Friends Board member John Wentworth, pictured here with Vasco Antoni, winner of the Red Sox duffel bag and long-time member/supporter of the Friends and branch library.  Other winning Friends and library supporters are Mary Ann Amatucci, Christine DeLosh, Charlotte Halloran, Joyce Riedel, and Paul Yokas.

For those interested in more bargains, the Friends’ regular sale shelves located on the first floor to the right of the security gate will continue to be stocked with new book donations.  The group will sponsor a staffed mini book and holiday sale in early December.  Announcement notices for the mini sale will be made directly to the membership, and posted on the blog and at the branch library.

1. Ticket forms may be picked up next to the collection box at the Friends’ book sales shelves opposite the circulation desk.  Deposit completed form with attached payment in cash or check in the collection box (library staff cannot accept payments or issue tickets); or

4 Holiday Raffle 2012 Winners

The winners have been selected for the Holiday Raffle sponsored by the Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library!

At the end of the Hyde Park Historical Society’s holiday meeting at the branch library on Saturday December 15th, Friends Directors Barbara Wicker and Claire Pauley drew 5 tickets for each of the 5 items in the prize package: 1 each MLB-licensed men’s large Pedroia home jersey (pictured above), reversible Red Sox pullover jacket, Red Sox zippered jacket with hood, Red Sox logo ball cap, and a commemorative Fenway coin set.  The winners drawn are:  Agnes Burns, Gloria Ganno (2), Alice Kane, and Roberta Poff.

Congratulations to the lucky winners, and a big “Thank-you!” to everyone who participated in our raffle!  A special “Thank-you!” from the Friends goes to Friends Director John Wentworth for his generous donation of the prize package.  The raffle proceeds totaling $250 will sponsor programs at the branch library in the coming year.

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library would like to congratulate the Faneuil Friends for selling the lucky winning raffle ticket for the Red Sox Experience Raffle drawn on Friday, February 3, 2012.  Pictured at left are Boston Public Library Foundation Executive Director David McKay, and President of the Friends of the Faneuil Branch Library Abigail Fury.   Our library Friends raised $118 for branch activities and were one of eight such groups submitting raffle tickets for the drawing.  Thank you to all who generously participated, and to the Boston Public Library Foundation for this raffle opportunity!

Can’t get to the branch library for your Red Sox raffle tickets?

Send us your name, mailing and email addresses, telephone number, and check made to “Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library”, c/o Hyde Park Branch Library, 35 Harvard Avenue, Hyde Park, MA, 02136.

Tickets are $2 each /or/ 5 tickets for $8 .  Send your raffle ticket orders by January 29 to ensure timely receipt at the branch library–late orders received will be returned.

Calling all Red Sox Fans!!

The Friends of the Hyde Park Branch Library are pleased to offer a very special raffle in which ONE lucky winner will receive a RED SOX EXPERIENCE package during the 2012 Season.  Other participating Boston Public Library Friends groups will also be offering tickets. Funds raised by each Friends group will benefit their respective branch library’s initiatives.

THE RED SOX EXPERIENCE PACKAGE:

• The raffle winner & 3 guests (1 guest must be age 16 or younger) will watch 3 innings from behind Fenway Park’s Green Monster, AND will receive four (4) infield grandstand seats from where they will watch the remainder of the game.
• The raffle winner must book a game date before March 30, 2012, and use the package by September 1, 2012.
• This package cannot be used for Opening Day, inter-league, or New York Yankees games.

THE RAFFLE:

• The Hyde Park Friends will sell raffle tickets at the Hyde Park Branch Library between January 2 and January 31, 2012.
• Price: $2 for one (1) or $8 for five (5) tickets. Contact information (name, maiing and email addresses, telephone) must be legibly printed on the raffle stub to be valid for the drawing.
• All raffle tickets from all participating Friends groups will be delivered to The Boston Public Library Foundation by February 1, 2012, and a public drawing will be held in the Boston Room at the Copley Square main branch on Friday, February 3, 2012, at 9:30am.
